Quick read
The UFC has introduced an AI-powered ranking system running alongside the existing media-voted rankings, with the latter still influencing matchmaking. The new system removes long-established veterans such as Vera, Ortega, Emmett, Dariush, Lewis, and Andrade from divisional top-15s, and notably excludes an overall pound-for-pound list, which the UFC explained as being too subjective. Critics have pointed to apparent inconsistencies, including a flyweight ranked tenth with a 2-4 UFC record and no finishes, ranking five places above a more active and accomplished opponent, raising questions about whether quality of opposition is adequately weighted in the model.
