Topuria, 29, entered the fight ranked second in the lightweight division and sitting at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings, carrying a record of 17-1-0 into the contest. Based out of Spain and training with Climent Club, the Georgian is one of the most dynamic fighters in the 155-pound weight class, averaging 4.81 significant strikes per minute at 48 percent accuracy while also mixing in nearly two takedown attempts per 15 minutes. The defeat to Gaethje represents the first blemish on what had been a near-perfect professional record.
Gaethje, nicknamed The Highlight, holds the lightweight championship and improved his record to 28-5-0 with the victory.
