UFC featherweight Danny Silva was hospitalized with multiple blood clots and a pulmonary embolism, a serious and potentially life-threatening medical emergency, the fighter revealed publicly on August 4, 2026.

Silva, known as "El Puma," initially dismissed the symptoms as a rib injury and continued training for several days before noticing swelling in his neck and chest. That swelling prompted him to seek medical attention, where doctors discovered the clots and the pulmonary embolism — a condition in which a clot blocks blood flow to the lungs. He spent three days in the hospital before being released to recover at home.

The 29-year-old American carries an 11-2 professional record and competes in the featherweight division out of CSW. A switch-stance fighter standing five feet seven inches tall with a 69-inch reach, Silva has been one of the more active strikers in his division, landing 6.35 significant strikes per minute at a 54 percent accuracy rate. He also averages just over two takedowns per fifteen minutes, making him a well-rounded threat inside the cage.

Why it matters

  • A pulmonary embolism is a medical emergency with serious long-term implications for a combat sports athlete, and Silva's path back to competition remains genuinely unclear.
  • Silva acknowledged his future in the cage is uncertain but expressed a clear determination to continue fighting when medically cleared.
  • His offensive output and well-rounded skill set at 11-2 had positioned him as a prospect to watch in a loaded featherweight division, making his health situation a significant storyline for the 145-pound class.

Silva has not yet indicated a timeline for his return, and the priority at this stage is his recovery from what was a life-threatening medical event.
