Gane calls out Aspinall for being mentally fragile, criticizes his eye poke complaints
Quick read

Ciryl Gane didn't hold back in a new interview regarding his history with Tom Aspinall, calling him out directly: "We knew he was mentally fragile. We had guessed it, we suspected it. The guy complains a bit too much. You got poked in the eyes, you have a right to stop. If you feel pain, there's an issue. There's no need to do all that you did in terms of communication because it worked against you in the end. We saw the fingers, there's no need to do all that you did." Via: ZackNaniTV

Ciryl Gane has gone on the offensive against UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, delivering a pointed critique of his rival's mental toughness and his public reaction to an eye poke incident.

Speaking in an interview via ZackNaniTV, Gane was blunt in his assessment of the reigning champion. "We knew he was mentally fragile. We had guessed it, we suspected it," Gane said, adding that while Aspinall had every right to stop the action after being poked in the eye, the volume of his subsequent complaints worked against him. "We saw the fingers, there's no need to do all that you did," Gane stated.

Gane, known by his nickname "Bon Gamin," carries a 14-2 record and is currently ranked number one in the UFC heavyweight division. The 36-year-old Frenchman, who trains out of MMA Factory, stands six-foot-four with a remarkable 81-inch reach. He lands 5.29 significant strikes per minute at a 61 percent accuracy rate, making him one of the most technically precise heavyweights in the sport.

Aspinall, the man in his crosshairs, holds the UFC heavyweight title and is ranked sixth in the pound-for-pound standings. The 33-year-old Englishman from Team Kaobon stands six-foot-five with a 78-inch reach and carries a 15-3 record. His striking output is exceptional even by heavyweight standards, landing 7.63 significant strikes per minute at a 67 percent accuracy rate. He also averages 2.62 takedowns per 15 minutes, underlining his well-rounded threat.

Why it matters

  • Gane is the top-ranked heavyweight contender, making his public targeting of Aspinall a direct challenge for a title shot
  • The psychological dimension of Gane's comments adds a mental warfare element to what is already a compelling stylistic matchup
  • Any future bout between the two would pit the division's most accurate striker against arguably its highest-volume puncher
