Elves Brener delivered a sharp first-round finish, knocking out Josiah Harrell at the 4:14 mark to open up the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 121 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas on September 26.
Brener, now 16-6, is a 28-year-old Brazilian fighter out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima. Standing five-foot-ten with a 72-inch reach, the orthodox striker has built a reputation for consistent offensive output, averaging 3.99 significant strikes per minute with 47 percent accuracy. He also adds a takedown threat to his game, averaging 1.23 takedowns per 15 minutes, giving opponents multiple problems to solve on fight night.
Harrell, nicknamed "Muscle Hamster," came in having lost just once in twelve professional outings, carrying an 11-1 record into the bout. The 27-year-old American southpaw trains out of Grove City BJJ and stands five-foot-seven with a 68-inch reach. His 50 percent striking accuracy suggested a fighter who picks his shots carefully, but Brener caught him before the opening frame could close.
Why it matters
- Brener's victory snaps any momentum Harrell had built from his near-perfect professional record and sends a message in the division.
- The finish came just seconds shy of the five-minute mark, meaning Harrell had no answer once Brener found his range.
- For Brener, a decisive knockout on a UFC preliminary card strengthens his case for a step up in competition and a potential ranking push.
- The result took place on the undercard of the Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos headliner, giving Brener added visibility in front of a UFC APEX audience.
