Ilimbek Akylbek has been crowned The Ultimate Fighter 34 Bantamweight winner after defeating Mahammadali Osmanli by disqualification in Round 1. Osmanli was disqualified for landing an illegal knee to a downed opponent. Akylbek earned the win along with a UFC contract.
Ilimbek Akylbek claimed The Ultimate Fighter 34 Bantamweight title on September 27 after his opponent Mahammadali Osmanli was disqualified in the first round for landing an illegal knee to a downed opponent.
The disqualification brought an abrupt and controversial end to the TUF 34 bantamweight final. Osmanli's illegal blow came with Akylbek on the canvas, and the referee moved quickly to end the contest and award the bout to Akylbek. Along with the TUF 34 crown, Akylbek earned a UFC contract, the ultimate prize on offer for competitors who make it through the grueling reality-show tournament format.
Why it matters
- Akylbek enters the UFC roster immediately as a contract holder, bypassing the standard tryout process.
- The disqualification finish leaves the result with an asterisk that will likely fuel debate about whether the two men should meet again.
- The bantamweight division at 135 pounds continues to be one of the most competitive in the organization, giving Akylbek a challenging but high-profile environment to launch his UFC career.
Winning via disqualification is always a complicated way to lift a championship, and Akylbek's path to proving himself will effectively begin with his first official UFC booking. Osmanli, meanwhile, faces the difficult reality of having cost himself a contract through an illegal strike at the worst possible moment. Whether the UFC opts to sign him separately remains to be seen, but the TUF 34 bantamweight title belongs unambiguously to Akylbek.
