Alexander Volkanovski defeated previously unbeaten Movsar Evloev by second-round TKO at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on October 24. The victory allowed Volkanovski to retain the UFC featherweight championship and handed Evloev the first loss of his professional career. The result strengthens Volkanovski’s position at the top of the division and ends Evloev’s immediate title momentum. The report also notes that Petr Yan retained the bantamweight title in the co-main event. Volkanovski’s next challenger has not been confirmed.
Alexander Volkanovski retained the UFC featherweight championship on Saturday, stopping previously unbeaten challenger Movsar Evloev with a second-round TKO at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, MMA Junkie reported. The result handed Evloev the first loss of his professional career. Petr Yan also retained the bantamweight title in the co-main event, and Volkanovski's next challenger has not been confirmed.
Volkanovski, the 38-year-old Australian from Freestyle Fighting Gym, improved to 29-4. He entered the night ranked third on the pound-for-pound list and was already riding a run of title defenses, having beaten Diego Lopes by unanimous decision in both of their meetings, on April 12, 2025 and January 31, 2026. Stopping Evloev inside two rounds is a sharp contrast to those two five-round decisions. His striking numbers explain the finish: he lands 5.99 significant strikes per minute at 57 percent accuracy.

Evloev, a 32-year-old Russian fighter who trains at American Top Team, falls to 20-1. He came in as the top-ranked featherweight contender, and his path to the title shot ran through decisions, including a majority decision over Lerone Murphy on March 21 and a unanimous decision over Aljamain Sterling at UFC 310 in December 2024. His style is built on wrestling. He averages 4.78 takedowns per 15 minutes, well above Volkanovski's 1.63, and lands 3.91 significant strikes per minute at 47 percent accuracy.
Why it matters
- Volkanovski's finish ends the momentum of the division's top-ranked contender, whose first loss came in his title shot.
- With no challenger confirmed, the top of the featherweight rankings is now open to reshuffling.
- The fight was the first meeting between the two, so there is no history to point to for a rematch.
The age and size gaps were modest. Evloev is six years younger, while Volkanovski has a one-inch height edge (five-foot-six to Evloev's five-foot-seven, in Evloev's favor on height) and a one-inch reach disadvantage, 71 inches to 72. Evloev's grappling-heavy approach did not translate into a decision this time, and Volkanovski ended the night as champion for another defense.
