Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker are reportedly being targeted to meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 124 on November 7. The matchup has not been officially announced by the promotion.

Cortes-Acosta, 17-4, is the No. 6-ranked heavyweight. The 35-year-old, who competes out of the United States, brings the higher output of the two, landing 5.03 significant strikes per minute at 47 percent accuracy. He has lost his last two fights, both by unanimous decision: to Curtis Blaydes on September 12 and to Alexander Volkov on May 9. Before that, he stopped Derrick Lewis in the second round at UFC 324 on January 24.

Johnny Walker
Johnny Walker

Walker, 23-10, is a 34-year-old Brazilian who trains at SBG Ireland. He arrives on a high note, having knocked out Mick Parkin in the first round at UFC 332 on October 3, his most recent recorded fight. That followed a split-decision loss to Dominick Reyes at UFC 327 in April, and a second-round knockout of Zhang Mingyang in August 2025. Walker lands 3.98 significant strikes per minute with 55 percent accuracy, and averages 0.7 submission attempts per 15 minutes.

The numbers point to a clear stylistic contrast. Walker is the bigger man on paper, at six-foot-six with an 82-inch reach, compared with Cortes-Acosta's six-foot-four and 78-inch reach. That is a two-inch height gap and a four-inch reach advantage for Walker. Cortes-Acosta, however, outpaces him by roughly one strike per minute, but Walker is the more accurate striker by eight percentage points. Neither is a heavy wrestler, with takedown averages of 0.36 per 15 minutes for Cortes-Acosta and 0.35 for Walker.

If the matchup is made official, the contrast in recent form would be notable: Walker would be coming off a quick knockout, while Cortes-Acosta would be trying to snap a two-fight skid.

Why it matters

  • Cortes-Acosta holds a top-10 heavyweight ranking but has dropped back-to-back decisions, so a third straight loss would raise questions about his place in the division.
  • Walker has won two of his last three recorded fights, both by knockout, and a main event slot against a ranked opponent would be a significant step.
  • The matchup pairs a volume striker against a longer, more accurate one, with little grappling expected to decide it based on their takedown rates.
