A featherweight matchup between Yair Rodriguez and Steve Garcia is reportedly in the works, though the bout has not been made official and its location has yet to be determined.

Because the matchup is unconfirmed, the details could still change. Neither the date nor the venue has been attached to the potential fight.

Rodriguez, a 34-year-old Mexican fighter who trains with Valle Flow Striking, holds a 21-6 record and is ranked sixth at featherweight. He is an orthodox striker listed at five-foot-eleven with a 71-inch reach. He lands 4.65 significant strikes per minute at 46 percent accuracy. His most recent recorded fight was a unanimous-decision win over Patricio Pitbull at UFC 314 on April 12, 2025. Before that, he lost by third-round submission to Brian Ortega in February 2024, and by third-round TKO to Alexander Volkanovski in a title fight at UFC 290 in July 2023.

Garcia, also 34, is the 10th-ranked featherweight with a 19-6 record. The American southpaw fights out of Jackson-Wink MMA and stands six feet tall with a 75-inch reach. He lands 5.39 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy, and averages 0.86 takedowns per 15 minutes. His most recent recorded fight was a second-round KO/TKO loss to Diego Lopes at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, 2026. That defeat followed a first-round stoppage of David Onama in November 2025 and a unanimous-decision win over Calvin Kattar in July 2025.

Why it matters

  • Rodriguez is ranked four places above Garcia, so the fight would pair the sixth- and 10th-ranked featherweights.
  • The two are the same age, but Garcia holds a four-inch reach advantage, 75 inches to 71, and is an inch taller.
  • Garcia has the higher striking output, 5.39 landed per minute against 4.65, and the better accuracy, 49 percent to 46.
  • Rodriguez has the longer layoff on record. His latest recorded bout came more than a year before Garcia's most recent one.

For Garcia, a fight would be a chance to rebound from the Lopes stoppage. For Rodriguez, it would mark a return to the cage after a stretch in which his most recent recorded result was the Pitbull decision win.
