Quick answer

As of October 22, 2026, the average UFC fight length since 2016 is 11:02 of fight time. AgentMMA's analysis covers 5,429 bouts with recorded finish times. Three-round fights average 10:31, while five-round fights average 15:50. These figures exclude rest periods, walkouts, introductions and broadcast padding. They measure only time on the fight clock.

Data snapshot: AgentMMA analysis of 5,429 UFC bouts since 2016 with a recorded finish time. Stored results span 1994-03-11 to 2026-10-17. Computed 2026-10-22.

Women's Bantamweight20112:4762.7%
Women's Flyweight28512:4063.5%
Women's Strawweight34512:3466.1%

Women's bantamweight has the longest average at 12:47. Light heavyweight has the shortest at 9:23, just below heavyweight at 9:26. Divisions with more decisions usually post longer averages because each decision adds the full scheduled time. That pattern doesn't tell us why finish rates differ.

Why do some UFC weight classes average longer fights?

Decision share explains part of the arithmetic. Every three-round decision fixes the fight time at 15:00, while an early stoppage pulls the average down. Women's strawweight reaches a decision in 66.1% of qualifying bouts. Light heavyweight does so in 34.7%.

That doesn't prove a cause. The table can't separate power, pace, matchmaking, skill mix or changes in the roster. It also can't tell you when non-decision fights end. Women's bantamweight averages 12:47 despite a lower decision rate than women's strawweight, which averages 12:34.

How long does a UFC fight last by format?

FormatBoutsAverage fight timeWent to decision
3-round bouts4,89810:3150.0%
5-round bouts53115:5042.4%

Three-round bouts dominate the sample, so they pull the combined average toward 10:31. Five-round bouts average 15:50 even though fewer reach a decision. The extra ten scheduled minutes leave more room for a late stoppage. They also make every full-distance result much longer.

Five-round fights aren't a random slice of the same matchups. They are usually main events or title fights, so the fighters and matchmaking differ from the three-round pool. The 5:19 gap is descriptive. It doesn't mean changing any scheduled bout from three rounds to five would add exactly 5:19.

What does the 11:02 average mean?

It doesn't mean most fights end at 11:02. An average blends five-second finishes, mid-fight stoppages and full decisions into one number. The distribution has fixed endpoints at 15:00 and 25:00 because decisions count at full scheduled time.

Use 11:02 to compare broad groups, not to predict one bout. Matchup, weight class and scheduled rounds matter. A heavyweight contest sits in a division averaging 9:26. A five-round main event comes from a group averaging 15:50.

This also isn't the length of a television slot. A three-round decision uses 15 minutes of fight time, plus two one-minute breaks. Walkouts, introductions, scorecards, ads and the gap before the next bout add far more.

How this list is counted

AgentMMA starts with the official finish round and time stored from UFC Stats-derived results. It converts those fields into elapsed fight time using the real length of each round. Breaks between rounds never enter the calculation.

A decision counts as 15:00 for a three-round bout or 25:00 for a five-round bout. A stoppage counts only the elapsed time through the recorded finish. For example, a finish at 2:00 of round two equals 7:00, not 8:00, because the break is excluded.

The study includes UFC bouts only. A fighter's professional record may include contests from other promotions, but those fights never enter a UFC figure here. An overturned result follows the stored UFC Stats result and counts as a no-contest.

There is no extra publication minimum for a division or format. Every qualifying bout in that category enters the table. Smaller groups, especially women's featherweight with 29 bouts, will move more when a new result arrives.

Other pages can differ because they use another date range, treatment of no-contests or qualifying minimum. One widely cited 2012 analysis put heavyweight at 7:59. It started at UFC 28 and stopped years before this since-2016 sample, which has heavyweight at 9:26.

Notable names on the list

This is a division table, not a fighter ranking. No athlete owns a row. Three names from the UFC record book show how much variation the overall averages hide.

Tom Aspinall

The UFC career record book lists Aspinall at 2:18, the shortest average among fighters with at least five UFC bouts. That is a fighter-level career mark. It isn't the same measure as the 9:26 heavyweight division average.

Valentina Shevchenko

The same record book lists Shevchenko at 19:04, the longest fighter average under its five-bout minimum. Her mark sits well above the 12:40 women's flyweight average. Five-round title fights can raise a fighter's personal number quickly.

Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren

Their five-second finish sits first in the UFC's single-fight record book. Masvidal is retired, but the 2019 result remains the clearest short-end example. Even that outlier carries little weight across 5,429 bouts.

How solid is this data?

The sample is large: 5,429 UFC bouts with a recorded finish time. It covers the stated since-2016 population, while the stored database results span 1994-03-11 through 2026-10-17. The calculation uses consistent finish-round and finish-time fields.

Its scope is narrow by design. Fights from other promotions can appear in a professional record, but never in these UFC averages. Overturned results count as no-contests when UFC Stats records them that way.

Fight time excludes one-minute breaks, walkouts and introductions. So you can't use 11:02 to estimate a broadcast's running time. This page refreshes after new UFC results change a division or format average.
