Topuria reveals Makhachev fight was hours from being announced before injury

Ilia Topuria says he is not disappointed that his fight against Islam Makhachev at the White House event fell through. Topuria revealed that just a couple of hours before the full White House card announcement, he knew he would be fighting Makhachev and that the bout would be officially announced. However, he then received a call informing him that Islam had suffered an injury and he would instead fight Justin Gaethje. Topuria went to bed expecting to fight Makhachev but was woken by numerous phone calls with the news of the change. He maintains that this fight should happen sooner or later.
