Ilia Topuria has shared new details about how close he came to fighting Islam Makhachev at the White House event. Topuria says he went to bed knowing the fight with Makhachev would be announced, only to be woken by numerous calls informing him that Islam had been injured and he would face Michael Chandler instead. According to Topuria, he was told just hours before the official card announcement that he would be facing Makhachev. The Georgian-Spanish champion maintains he is not disappointed by the change and believes the Makhachev fight will eventually happen.
