Kavanagh, 27, arrives in commanding form after pulling off one of the more eye-catching results in recent flyweight memory. The England native, fighting out of Great Britain Top Team, took the fight against former champion Brandon Moreno on short notice in Mexico City and walked away with the win. Now holding a 10-1-0 record, Kavanagh has shown a well-rounded game to back up the result — landing 4.13 significant strikes per minute at a 48 percent accuracy rate while also mixing in 1.12 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Royval enters as the more established name in the division. The 33-year-old American, nicknamed "Raw Dawg" and training out of Factory X, is ranked third at flyweight with a 17-9-0 record. A southpaw with a 68-inch reach, Royval is among the division's most active strikers, averaging 5.54 significant strikes per minute, and adds a submission threat with 1.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes.

Moreno, ranked second at flyweight despite the loss to Kavanagh, carries a 23-10-2 record and remains a significant measuring stick for the division. His defeat makes Kavanagh's momentum all the more credible heading into this assignment.

Why it matters

  • A win over Royval would push Kavanagh deep into the flyweight top five after already defeating a former champion
  • Royval's ranking at third means divisional title implications are directly on the line
  • The matchup pits Kavanagh's accuracy and takedown threat against Royval's high-volume striking and submission game, promising a dynamic stylistic contest
