Polish fighter Ibo Baraniewski has confirmed he is considering the UFC's offer to step in as a replacement for Jan Blachowicz. Baraniewski stated there are both pros and cons to accepting the opportunity, calling it huge even for his third UFC appearance. He revealed that active discussions are ongoing between his manager and UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, with proposals being exchanged. Baraniewski noted his coaches are also key decision-makers in the process. He is currently scheduled to fight Billy Elekana on June 6, which complicates the potential replacement bout.

Polish unbeaten prospect Iwo Baraniewski has confirmed he is in active talks with the UFC about stepping in on short notice to replace Jan Blachowicz, with negotiations between his management and UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard still ongoing as of April 20.

Baraniewski, 27, carries a perfect 8-0-0 professional record into these discussions and is already on the UFC roster heading into just his third appearance with the promotion. The orthodox striker stands six feet tall with a 73-inch reach and has posted a remarkable 70 percent striking accuracy alongside an eye-catching 15.77 significant strikes landed per minute — numbers that suggest an aggressive, high-output style on the feet. He acknowledged publicly that the opportunity is a huge one, while also noting real complications exist, not least his scheduled June 6 bout against Billy Elekana. His coaching staff, he said, are central to any final decision alongside his manager.

Blachowicz, the fighter Baraniewski could replace, is a 43-year-old Polish veteran ranked fifth in the light heavyweight division with a 29-11-2 record. A former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, he brings considerable pedigree and averages 3.44 significant strikes per minute with a 198-centimetre reach that creates problems for most opponents.

The fighter originally across from Baraniewski on June 6, Billy Elekana, is a 31-year-old southpaw out of Uprising MMA. Standing six-foot-three with a 77-inch reach, Elekana carries a 10-2-0 record and connects at 56 percent striking accuracy, also mixing in takedown and submission threats.

Why it matters

  • A replacement slot could significantly accelerate Baraniewski's UFC trajectory, pitting the unbeaten prospect against a ranked, high-profile veteran far earlier than expected.
  • His existing fight with Elekana on June 6 creates a genuine scheduling conflict that complicates acceptance.
  • No deal is confirmed; discussions remain at the proposal stage, and coaching input is still part of the decision-making process.
