All signs point toward the UFC kicking off 2027 with two massive 170-pound bouts on the same night: 👑 Main Event: Islam Makhachev vs. Carlos Prates Ariel Helwani and Kolmenero hinted that UFC 336 will be headlined by the welterweight title, and knockout artist Carlos Prates (7 UFC finishes) recently confirmed he is locked in as Islam’s next challenger for January ⚔️ Co-Main Event: Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Michael Morales. WOW!!! According to @mma.pros.pick, a blockbuster welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Carlos Prates is reportedly being discussed for UFC 336 in Toronto!!! This would mark the UFC’s return to Toronto for the first time in nearly three years, and what a way to make a comeback! On top of that, Joshua Van vs. Manel Kape has been rumoured as a potential flyweight title fight for the co-main event for quite some time now. If both of these fights come together, we could genuinely be looking at one of the greatest UFC cards ever held on Canadian soil. As a Canadian myself, I NEED to see this happen. #ufc #islammakhachev #joshuavan #carlosprates #manelkape

🚨 Carlos Prates, seemingly drunk, called out Islam Makhachev in a video, declaring himself wrestling's worst nightmare. Eric Albarracin joined in with the hype: "He smokes American cigarettes. He drinks Irish whiskey. He breaks women's hearts. And he's coming to dethrone the pound-for-pound king. Wrestling's worst nightmare." 💀 Via @thenightmare_170 Prates vs. Makhachev: Who walks away with the win? 👀 #ufc #mma #carlosprates #islammakhachev #mmaonline

Carlos Prates really stopped his pad session to crack open a Heineken beer. 😂🍺🥊 The UFC welterweight contender has built a reputation for doing things his own way, and this latest training clip is peak “The Nightmare.” 😭💀 Prates has openly embraced an unconventional lifestyle outside the Octagon, even becoming known for his beer-and-cigarette habits despite the demands of being an elite fighter. He has also explained that he cuts back significantly when preparing seriously for a fight. 🥊🔥 And with a potential title fight against Islam Makhachev looming, things are about to get VERY serious. Could Carlos Prates actually become UFC champion while living this differently from most fighters? 🍺👀 via @thenightmare_170 #ufc #mma #carlosprates #beerlover #heineken

Michael Morales says he has already agreed to his next bout, targeted for January against a "very tough opponent" who is neither Carlos Prates nor Ian Machado Garry. Morales called it his last fight before a title shot and said he expects to fight for the belt in June. The announcement leaves Prates as the consensus favorite to face Islam Makhachev next, as the champion looks to return in the coming months before a break for Ramadan.
