Islam Makhachev has once again drawn attention to what he describes as a major construction crisis in Dagestan, particularly in Makhachkala. Seventeen days ago, as flooding was already affecting the region, Makhachev called on regional leadership to address construction issues, stating that Makhachkala has turned into one chaotic construction site. He recently reposted content from geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a school teacher in Dagestan who was named Teacher of the Year in 2025, who shared aerial photos of Makhachkala showing what he called an urban catastrophe. The post notes that the problem extends beyond Dagestan to all of Russia, with massive residential complexes being built despite stagnant or falling populations in many cities. These developments often feature 30-story buildings with 1000 apartments standing largely empty, built closely together with poor quality. The post praises Makhachev for highlighting this ongoing issue.
