Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems in 2022 were the root cause of his unusual cardio issues that plagued him in his first fight against Corey Anderson. Nemkov explained that he would gas out after one round in sparring sessions, feeling as if his "gas tank emptied," despite performing well in other training like CrossFit and weightlifting. This same issue manifested in his spring 2022 bout with Anderson, where he won the first round but had no energy in the second, unable to execute techniques he knew he should be capable of. After extensive medical consultation and a trip to Thailand for training camp, doctors identified the kidney issue and found an over-the-counter medication that resolved the problem. Nemkov has since eliminated all sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen due to the strain they place on kidneys, now taking only vitamins, omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and B vitamins. He notes he hasn't felt worse without the supplements and emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition and sleep.
