Islam Makhachev highlights construction problems in Dagestan amid floods

Islam Makhachev has once again drawn attention to major construction issues in Dagestan, specifically the problem of chaotic and low-quality building projects. Seventeen days ago, when flooding was already affecting Dagestan, Makhachev appealed to regional leadership to address construction matters, stating that Makhachev (the city) has turned into one chaotic construction site. Today he reposted content from geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a school teacher in Dagestan who shared aerial photographs showing the urban catastrophe in Makhachkala. The images reveal tightly packed residential complexes, numerous unauthorized constructions, and generally poor urban planning. The post praises Makhachev for recognizing this problem and bringing attention to it. Koryukhin, originally from Yaroslavl, has lived in the Caucasus for six years and was named Teacher of the Year in Dagestan for 2025.
