Islam Makhachev highlights construction problems in Dagestan amid flooding

Islam Makhachev has repeatedly drawn attention to construction chaos in Dagestan, particularly the proliferation of poorly built residential complexes and illegal construction projects. Seventeen days ago, as flooding devastated the region, Makhachev called on Dagestan leadership to address how "Makhachkala has turned into one chaotic construction site." Today he reposted geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a school teacher in Dagestan, who shared aerial photographs showing the urban planning disaster in Makhachkala. Koryukhin, originally from Yaroslavl and named Dagestan's Teacher of the Year in 2025, documented the haphazard development. The post notes this construction problem extends across Russia, with massive residential complexes being built despite stagnant or declining urban populations.
