Mike Tyson appeared on Robert Kennedy's podcast and discussed the terrible quality of food he experienced during his three years in prison. Tyson explained that the Federal Prison System spends approximately 60 cents per day on inmate meals, resulting in diets consisting mainly of sugar, processed foods, donuts, chips and oversalted soup with no healthy options. He stated this poor nutrition makes prisoners angrier and contributes to high levels of violence, as people become more aggressive over minor issues. Tyson also shared that his sister died from obesity-related issues and poor diet, while his mother and her friends all suffered from diet-related health problems. He credited his mentor Cus D'Amato with teaching him proper nutrition, and now carefully manages his diet with eggs for breakfast and seafood as his primary fat-burning food.
