On Robert Kennedy's podcast, Mike Tyson discussed the poor quality of food he ate during three years in prison. Kennedy noted that the Federal prison system spends approximately 60 cents per day per inmate on food. Tyson recalled that the prison canteen sold only donuts, chips, and sugary items with no healthy options, and the healthiest choice was an impure, oversalted soup. Tyson believes this terrible diet makes people angrier and contributes to prison violence, stating that ultra-processed food significantly influences inmates to fight and kill over minor provocations. Kennedy cited research showing improved prison food quality reduces violence by 50% and disciplinary measures in juvenile facilities by 70%. Tyson shared that his sister died from obesity-related issues due to poor diet, and credited his mentor Cus D'Amato with teaching him proper nutrition. He now focuses on his appearance and health, eating mainly eggs for breakfast and seafood as his primary fat-burning food.
