On Robert Kennedy's podcast, Mike Tyson discussed the poor quality of prison food he experienced during his three-year incarceration, describing it as pure sugar and processed chemicals. Kennedy noted that the Federal Prison System spends only about 60 cents per day on inmate meals. Tyson explained that in his facility, only donuts, chips, and sugary items were available, with the healthiest option being oversalted soup. He believes this unhealthy diet contributes significantly to prison violence, making inmates more aggressive and prone to fighting over minor issues. Kennedy cited research showing that improving prison food quality can reduce violence by 50% and disciplinary measures by 70% in juvenile facilities. Tyson also shared that his sister died from obesity-related complications and his mother suffered health problems due to poor nutrition, while crediting his mentor Cus D'Amato for teaching him proper eating habits. He currently focuses on a diet centered on eggs and seafood, which he considers optimal for fat burning.
