Mike Tyson discussed his experience with poor-quality food during his three years in prison on Robert Kennedy's podcast. Tyson described the food as consisting primarily of sugar and processed items, with the Federal Bureau of Prisons spending approximately 60 cents per day on inmate meals. He explained that the prison cafeteria only sold donuts, chips, and sugary items with virtually no healthy options. Tyson believes this ultra-processed food makes people angrier and contributes to prison violence, stating that inmates would fight or attack each other over minor provocations. Robert Kennedy cited research showing that improving prison food quality can reduce violence by 50% and disciplinary measures in juvenile facilities by 70%. Tyson credited his mentor Cus D'Amato with teaching him proper nutrition and now maintains a healthy diet consisting primarily of eggs for breakfast and seafood, which he considers the best food for burning fat.
