Sean Strickland fired back at Khamzat Chimaev after the Chechen fighter mentioned New Jersey's Muslim community and suggested Strickland wouldn't be able to carry weapons there. Strickland called Chimaev a coward for making threats about having his friends attack him, stating: "That's why you're a coward. All these threats: 'We'll jump you, my Muslim friends will jump you.' You may live in America, but you have no idea what it means to be American or just a man." The exchange continues the ongoing verbal feud between the two middleweights.

Strickland, the reigning middleweight champion, did not hold back in his response. Paraphrasing his words, the 35-year-old American accused Chimaev of hiding behind the threat of group violence rather than facing him directly, calling him "a coward" for suggesting that friends would be sent to attack him. Strickland also questioned whether Chimaev, despite living in America, truly understands what it means to be American or, in his words, simply "a man." The 31-7 champion trains out of Xtreme Couture and is known for one of the highest striking outputs in the division, landing 6.04 significant strikes per minute with a six-foot-one frame and a 76-inch reach.

Chimaev, fighting out of the UAE and based at Allstars Training Center, enters this feud as the number-one ranked middleweight and sits tenth in the pound-for-pound rankings. The 32-year-old carries a 15-1 record and brings elite grappling credentials to the table, averaging 5.29 takedowns per 15 minutes alongside a striking accuracy of 60 percent. At six-foot-two with a 75-inch reach, "Borz" represents a formidable physical and stylistic challenge for any opponent in the division.

Why it matters

  • Strickland holds the middleweight title while Chimaev is the division's top-ranked contender, making this rivalry a natural title-fight build
  • The personal nature of the exchange raises the stakes beyond a typical promotional feud
  • A potential matchup would pit Strickland's high-volume striking against Chimaev's elite wrestling and takedown pressure
