A Russian MMA analyst believes Khamzat Chimaev won the UFC 328 press conference with sharp verbal attacks, while Sean Strickland was described as rather monotonous. Despite Strickland doing his job to promote the fight, the analyst felt Chimaev had more effective moments. The analyst predicts the fight will end in the first round with a Chimaev stoppage victory. The assessment suggests Chimaev showed more variety and effectiveness during the promotional event. Strickland is credited with successfully building hype for the bout despite being outshone verbally.

A Russian MMA analyst has handed Khamzat Chimaev the pre-fight verbal battle ahead of UFC 328, predicting the undefeated contender will also finish Sean Strickland inside the first round when the two middleweights meet on May 9.

The analyst assessed the UFC 328 press conference as a comfortable win for Chimaev, citing his variety and sharpness in verbal exchanges. Strickland was characterized as repetitive but effective enough at generating interest in the matchup. The assessment credits the champion with doing his promotional job while still coming off second best in the face-off of words.

Sean Strickland, nicknamed "Tarzan," enters the bout as the reigning middleweight champion at 31 wins and seven losses. The 35-year-old American out of Xtreme Couture is a high-output striker, landing 6.04 significant strikes per minute at 42 percent accuracy, and carries a six-foot-one frame with a 76-inch reach. His takedown and grappling output remain relatively modest at 0.71 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Chimaev, known as "Borz," brings a 15-1 record into the contest and enters as the division's number-one ranked contender, also sitting tenth in the pound-for-pound rankings. The 32-year-old, representing the United Arab Emirates out of Allstars Training Center, is measured at six-foot-two with a 75-inch reach. His grappling load is among the heaviest in the division at 5.29 takedowns per 15 minutes, and he converts submission attempts at a rate of 1.8 per 15 minutes. His striking accuracy of 60 percent is notably high despite a slightly lower volume than the champion.

Why it matters

  • Strickland's middleweight title is directly on the line against the division's top-ranked challenger
  • Chimaev's elite grappling rate presents a distinct stylistic problem for Strickland, whose takedown defense will be tested immediately
  • A first-round finish, if it materializes, would represent one of the most significant title changes in recent middleweight history given Strickland's experience and durability
