Quick read

Tapology has launched a new feature that rates the level of opposition faced by UFC fighters, displayed in their profiles with scores from 1 to 99. The rating is calculated using a specific formula based on a fighter's last six UFC bouts, with fights in other organizations not included. For UFC 328, Sean Strickland leads with the highest opposition level at 74, followed by Khamzat Chimaev at 69 and Alexander Volkov at 67. At the bottom of the card, Baysangur Susurkaev and Ozzy Diaz both scored just 4, with Jorden Santos at 6. The system provides fans and analysts with a quantifiable measure of the strength of schedule each fighter has faced.

Tapology has rolled out a new opposition-level rating system for UFC fighters, assigning each competitor a score between 1 and 99 that reflects the quality of opponents they have faced across their last six UFC bouts. The feature is displayed directly on fighter profiles and excludes results from other promotions.

For UFC 328, scheduled for May 9, middleweight champion Sean Strickland leads the entire card with an opposition score of 74. The 35-year-old American, who trains out of Xtreme Couture and carries a 31-7-0 record, has built a reputation as one of the busiest strikers in the sport, landing 6.04 significant strikes per minute at 42 percent accuracy across a 76-inch reach. His championship run has clearly come against elite-level competition, and Tapology's system reflects that.

Alexander Volkov

Heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov ranks second on the card with a score of 67. The 37-year-old Russian, ranked first in the heavyweight division with a 40-11-0 record, stands six-foot-seven with an 80-inch reach and connects on 57 percent of his significant strikes — one of the sharper accuracy figures in the heavyweight ranks.

At the other end of the scale, Baysangur Susurkaev and Ozzy Diaz both received scores of just 4, with Jorden Santos registering a 6. Those low marks indicate limited UFC-level opposition on record heading into the event.

Why it matters

  • The system gives analysts a concrete, formula-driven way to contextualize a fighter's record beyond wins and losses
  • Scores are calculated exclusively from UFC bouts, meaning fighters with experience in other promotions receive no credit for that work
  • The wide gap between Strickland's 74 and the card's lowest scores of 4 illustrates how dramatically strength of schedule can vary within a single event
  • Ranking tools like this add a layer of accountability when evaluating whether a fighter's record reflects genuine elite-level competition
