Sean Strickland's victory over Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328 is being called an upset of the year, the second time Strickland has achieved this distinction (the first being against Israel Adesanya). Many had counted Strickland out, labeling him a "transitional champion" and expecting him to be dominated by Chimaev. The bout was scored 3-2 in Strickland's favor by most observers, though one judge controversially gave the fifth round to Chimaev. Chimaev showed cardio issues similar to his fight with Kamaru Usman, dominating early but fading as the fight progressed. Following the loss, Chimaev is reportedly planning to move up to light heavyweight, possibly facing Paulo Costa. Strickland's next title defense could logically be against Nassourdine Imavov.
