Carlos Prates' nickname 'The Nightmare' did not originate from his fighting style as commonly believed. The moniker actually comes from a character named Pesadelo (Portuguese for 'Nightmare') from a popular 2000s Brazilian children's show called 'Sítio do Picapau Amarelo' (Yellow Woodpecker Farm). Prates' friends thought he resembled this character and began calling him by that name. The nickname later transitioned perfectly from his personal life into his professional fighting career. Despite the origin story, Prates himself states he sees no resemblance between himself and the character.
