Two grappling specialists will collide in a mirror-match UFC debut when Abubakar Vagaev and Magomedrrasul Gasanov meet at a middleweight bout scheduled for the July 25 event in Abu Dhabi.

The three-round contest pairs two former ACA standouts making their first appearances on the UFC roster simultaneously, giving the promotion a compelling all-debut matchup in a division always hungry for emerging talent.

Vagaev arrives with backing from one of the sport's most prominent active competitors. Khamzat Chimaev, the number-one ranked UFC middleweight at 15-1-0, played a key role in brokering Vagaev's signing. The Borz, who fights out of Allstars Training Center and carries a 60-percent striking accuracy alongside 5.29 takedowns per 15 minutes, brings considerable credibility as a corner and advocate for his countryman.

Islam Makhachev

Gasanov's path to the octagon ran through Dagestani royalty. Undefeated retired legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, 29-0-0, and current welterweight champion Islam Makhachev, 28-1-0 and ranked number one pound-for-pound, were instrumental in securing Gasanov's deal. Makhachev, a southpaw out of Eagles MMA who averages 1.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes, is no stranger to nurturing prospects through the promotional pipeline.

Why it matters

  • Both fighters are ACA veterans with strong grappling pedigrees, setting up a technically demanding scramble-heavy contest
  • The Dagestani and Chechen networks behind each fighter add a broader team rivalry dimension to the matchup
  • A strong performance from either man immediately puts them on the radar in a stacked middleweight division where Chimaev sits just one spot from a title shot
