Islam Makhachev has weighed in publicly on Conor McGregor's anticipated return to the UFC and offered his take on how a potential matchup between McGregor and Max Holloway would play out.

Makhachev, 34, is the current welterweight champion and holds the top spot in the pound-for-pound rankings with a record of 28-1-0. The Russian fighter, who trains out of Eagles MMA and competes out of a southpaw stance, is one of the most complete grapplers in the sport, averaging 3.2 takedowns per 15 minutes and 1.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes. He also connects at a striking accuracy of 58 percent, among the highest in the division.

Conor McGregor, the 37-year-old Irishman known as "The Notorious," carries a professional record of 22-6-0 and has not competed recently. A southpaw out of SBG Ireland, McGregor stands five-foot-nine with a notably long reach of 74 inches — 188 cm — and has historically been one of the more precise strikers in the sport, landing 5.32 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy across his career.

Max Holloway, ranked fourth in the lightweight division and ninth pound-for-pound at 27-9-0, represents a different kind of challenge. The 34-year-old Hawaiian out of Gracie Technics is widely regarded as one of the highest-volume strikers in MMA, averaging 7.2 significant strikes per minute at 48 percent accuracy. Standing five-foot-eleven with a 69-inch reach, Holloway competes as an orthodox fighter and has rebuilt his résumé impressively at lightweight.
