Tsarukyan, known as "Ahalkalakets," enters the picture as the top-ranked lightweight in the division at just 29 years old. The Russia-born American Top Team product carries a 23-3-0 record and has built a reputation as one of the most well-rounded fighters in the weight class. He lands 3.85 significant strikes per minute and averages an impressive 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes, making him a consistent threat across all phases of a fight.

Standing across from him would be Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira, the current BMF titleholder and the No. 3-ranked lightweight in the world. The 36-year-old Brazilian, who fights out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima, brings a 37-11-0 record and remains one of the most dangerous submission artists in the sport, averaging 2.6 submission attempts per 15 minutes. Oliveira also lands strikes at a 54 percent accuracy rate and adds 2.22 takedowns per 15 minutes to his arsenal, giving him a multidimensional attack that belies any notion of a one-dimensional grappler.

Why it matters

  • Tsarukyan is the division's No. 1 contender, meaning a win over Oliveira would further cement his claim to a lightweight title shot
  • Oliveira at No. 3 and No. 11 pound-for-pound still represents one of the sport's most formidable challenges for any lightweight
  • The stylistic matchup is compelling — Tsarukyan's volume and takedown output against Oliveira's elite submission game and striking accuracy sets up a legitimate clash of complementary skill sets
  • A September target gives both camps a realistic window to finalize terms and prepare for what could be one of the year's most significant lightweight bouts
