Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev are publicly contradicting each other regarding a planned fight at the White House event. Topuria claims he was told he would fight Makhachev and went to sleep knowing the bout was scheduled, but hours before the announcement, he was informed Makhachev suffered an injury and he would instead face Justin Gaethje. Makhachev countered that he agreed to the fight when offered, but the next day was told Topuria requested a huge fee and was denied, leading Topuria to refuse the bout. Makhachev stated even Topuria's manager confirmed this version of events. A fan commenting at 4 AM suggested it was manager Ali Abdelaziz posting, to which Makhachev replied "not him today," adding another layer of confusion to the conflicting accounts.
