Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamal Hill is making a move to heavyweight and has publicly called out Sergei Pavlovich as the opponent he wants for his debut in the new division.

Hill has been on the sidelines for more than a year since dropping a decision to Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC Baku. Rountree, now ranked seventh at light heavyweight, is a 36-year-old southpaw standing six-foot-one with a 76-inch reach. He lands 3.88 significant strikes per minute at 40 percent accuracy, relying almost entirely on striking with virtually no takedown or submission activity on his record.

Pavlovich, ranked third in the heavyweight division, presents a formidable target for Hill's debut. The 34-year-old Russian fights out of Eagles MMA, stands six-foot-three at 191 cm, and carries an 84-inch reach that gives him a serious range advantage over most opponents. He holds a 20-3 professional record and produces 4.43 significant strikes per minute at 44 percent accuracy, making him one of the more prolific and precise strikers in the division.

Why it matters

  • Hill moving up would represent a significant jump in competition size and divisional depth
  • A win over a top-three heavyweight like Pavlovich would immediately establish Hill as a contender in his new weight class
  • Both fighters are primarily strikers, setting up a potential stand-and-bang contest with heavyweight finishing power
  • The matchup would test whether Hill's speed and timing from light heavyweight translates against Pavlovich's reach and output at 265 pounds
