Rafael Fiziev has distanced himself from being called a product of the Kyrgyz martial arts school, stating that he considers himself self-made and does not identify with the country given the criticism he has received from it. Fiziev also addressed the current wave of Kyrgyz MMA talent, arguing that Valentina Shevchenko and Muratali Magomedov should not be attributed to that school either. He singled out Razhababli as a unique phenomenon comparable to fighters like Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, noting the fighter's perfect finishing record.

Rafael Fiziev has spoken out against being labeled a product of the Kyrgyz martial arts school, declaring himself self-made and distancing himself from a country he says has directed significant criticism his way.

In a wide-ranging interview, Fiziev pushed back on narratives that credit the Kyrgyz MMA scene for producing him, making clear he does not identify with that association given the reception he has received there. He extended the argument further, contending that Women's Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and fighter Muratali Magomedov should not be attributed to the Kyrgyz school either.

Shevchenko, 38, holds a professional record of 26-4-1 and has been one of the most dominant champions in the UFC's women's divisions. Fighting out of a southpaw stance, she lands 3.14 significant strikes per minute at 52 percent accuracy and averages 2.62 takedowns per 15 minutes, making her a genuinely two-dimensional threat. Despite being born in Kyrgyzstan and representing the country for much of her career, Fiziev's comments suggest he views her success as something that transcends any single national program.

The sharpest praise in Fiziev's comments was reserved for a fighter he identified only as Razhababli, whom he described as a unique phenomenon in the sport — a fighter whose perfect finishing record puts him in rare company. Fiziev reached for comparisons to Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov to frame the scale of that praise. Nurmagomedov, who retired with a flawless 29-0 record, averaged 5.32 takedowns per 15 minutes throughout his career and was never once stopped inside the octagon.

Why it matters

  • Fiziev's comments reframe how credit is assigned within Central Asian MMA, a region producing an increasing number of elite fighters
  • His praise of Razhababli as a generational talent signals the fighter as one to watch as his profile grows
  • Shevchenko's inclusion in the argument adds weight, given her standing as the reigning Women's Flyweight champion with a record of 26-4-1
