Makhachev enters the headliner as the reigning welterweight champion and the pound-for-pound number-one fighter in the sport. The 34-year-old Russian, who trains out of Eagles MMA, carries a 28-1-0 record and brings a suffocating all-around game to the cage. Fighting out of a southpaw stance at five-foot-ten with a 70-inch reach, he averages 3.2 takedowns per 15 minutes and lands submissions at a rate of 1.1 attempts per 15 minutes, all while posting a striking accuracy of 58 percent.

Garry, nicknamed The Future, arrives as the division's number-one contender with a 17-1-0 record. The 28-year-old stands six-foot-three with a 74-inch reach and uses that length to generate an output of 4.78 significant strikes per minute, one of the higher rates in the welterweight division. His orthodox style and sharp striking have carried him to the doorstep of a world title.

Why it matters

  • Makhachev vs. Garry is a title unification of styles — dominant grappling against high-volume striking — giving the undercard bouts a marquee platform.
  • The number-one contender slot Garry holds means the division's top of the rankings is directly on the line.
  • A growing card signals UFC's confidence in the event drawing significant pay-per-view interest, which raises the profile of every fight added to the lineup.
