Quick read

CBS Sports’ schedule update lists UFC 330 for Aug. 15 in Philadelphia, headlined by Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry for the welterweight title. That pairing would give the division a major shake-up opportunity and adds another marquee title fight to the late-summer slate. The Philadelphia booking also signals the UFC’s continued push into major U.S. markets for numbered events. If the bout holds, the division’s top contender landscape will be shaped around this title fight.

Philadelphia will host UFC 330 on August 15, with welterweight champion Islam Makhachev putting his title on the line against the division's top-ranked contender, Ian Machado Garry, according to a CBS Sports schedule update.

Makhachev, 34, carries a 28-1 record into the fight and holds the pound-for-pound top spot in the sport. The Russian southpaw out of Eagles MMA stands five-foot-ten with a 70-inch reach and has built his reputation on suffocating grappling — averaging 3.2 takedowns and 1.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes. He also lands 2.63 significant strikes per minute at an elite 58 percent accuracy, making him a threat in every phase.

Garry, 28, arrives as the number-one welterweight contender with a 17-1 record. Known as "The Future," the six-foot-three orthodox striker carries a 74-inch reach advantage over the champion and produces significant offense at 4.78 significant strikes per minute, landing at 54 percent accuracy. His ground game is less prolific, but the size and output he brings give him a distinct profile at 170 pounds.

Why it matters

  • Makhachev steps from lightweight to welterweight, adding a cross-divisional dimension to the title picture
  • Garry's number-one ranking means the winner inherits an undisputed claim at the top of the division
  • The physical contrast is stark — Garry holds a five-inch height edge and a four-inch reach advantage over the champion
  • Philadelphia marks another major U.S. market landing a numbered pay-per-view event on the late-summer calendar
