The 29-year-old Spaniard is 17-1 and averages 4.81 significant strikes per minute. Arman Tsarukyan, Max Holloway, Paddy Pimblett and Charles Oliveira — the Brazilian veteran ranked third at 37-11 who attempts submissions at a rate of 2.6 per 15 minutes — all have credible arguments for a title shot of their own.
Beyond that group, names like Benoît Saint Denis, Rafael Fiziev, Mauricio Ruffy and an undefeated PFL lightweight champion preparing to enter the UFC are waiting in the wings.
