Two charged with perjury over evidence in Conor McGregor's civil case appeal
Quick read

Samantha O'Reilly and Steven Cummins appeared in a Dublin court on Tuesday charged with perjury following a police investigation. The pair are accused of giving statements during the proceedings that were false and that they knew to be false. O'Reilly, a former neighbor of Nikita Hand, had submitted an affidavit in McGregor's unsuccessful appeal claiming she witnessed a physical altercation between Hand and her ex-boyfriend around the time of the alleged 2018 assault. Hand denied the claims and the evidence was withdrawn from the appeal. A jury previously found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Hand in a Dublin hotel and ordered him to pay £206,000 plus legal fees.

Two people have been charged with perjury in connection with evidence submitted during Conor McGregor's unsuccessful civil case appeal, a Dublin court heard on Tuesday.

Samantha O'Reilly and Steven Cummins appeared in court following a police investigation. The pair are accused of giving statements during the proceedings that were false and that they knew to be false.

O'Reilly, a former neighbor of Nikita Hand, had submitted an affidavit in McGregor's appeal claiming she witnessed a physical altercation between Hand and her ex-boyfriend around the time of the alleged 2018 assault. Hand denied the claims, and the evidence was withdrawn from the appeal.

The underlying case

A jury previously found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Hand in a Dublin hotel and ordered him to pay £206,000 plus legal fees. McGregor's appeal against that verdict was unsuccessful.

McGregor is not among those charged in the perjury case. The charges relate solely to the statements O'Reilly and Cummins are alleged to have made during the proceedings.

The fighter

McGregor, 38, is an Irish southpaw who trains with SBG Ireland. He holds a professional record of 22-7-0. In the cage, he has averaged 5.27 significant strikes landed per minute with 49 percent striking accuracy, while his grappling numbers have been modest: 0.66 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes. He stands five-foot-nine with a 74-inch reach.

What to watch

  • The perjury proceedings against O'Reilly and Cummins will now move through the Irish courts.
  • The charges center on whether the statements made during McGregor's appeal were knowingly false.
  • The withdrawn affidavit was part of the appeal that ultimately failed, leaving the jury's original verdict and the £206,000 award in place.

The case remains a legal matter outside the cage, with no fight-related implications attached to the latest charges.
