It’s already been 181 days since Alex Pereira last stepped inside the Octagon at the White House. Nearly six months have passed since that night. Time really does fly.
Alex Pereira has now gone 181 days without fighting, a layoff of nearly six months since his most recent Octagon appearance at the UFC's White House event.
The gap is a notable one for a fighter who built his reputation on staying active at the top of the sport. Pereira has not competed since that card, and the clock on his absence continues to run as of October 6, 2026.
The fighter
Pereira, nicknamed "Poatan," holds a 13-4-0 record and sits at number three in the light heavyweight rankings. The 39-year-old Brazilian trains out of Teixeira MMA & Fitness and fights from an orthodox stance.
He stands six-foot-four, or 193 cm, with a 79-inch reach that measures 201 cm. Those dimensions suit a striker who lands 5.16 significant strikes per minute at a 62 percent accuracy rate, numbers that reflect both his volume and his precision.
His grappling output is modest by comparison. Pereira averages just 0.11 takedown attempts per 15 minutes and 0.2 submission attempts over the same span, which fits a profile built almost entirely around stand-up damage.
Why it matters
- Pereira's ranking at number three means he remains firmly in the light heavyweight title picture, but extended inactivity can slow momentum in a crowded division.
- At 39, every month away from competition carries more weight for a fighter chasing a long run at the top.
- His striking-heavy style has made him one of the more compelling attractions at 205 pounds, so his absence from the schedule is felt.
No return date or opponent has been reported. For now, the count stands at 181 days and rising.
