The Global Fight League has set its debut event for Dec. 18 at Club Atletico Lanus in Buenos Aires, MMA Fighting reported. The team-format card will pit the Buenos Aires Gauchos against the Miami Monsters, giving the promotion its first show after planned May 2025 events were cancelled before the league could get started.

No fighter bookings have been revealed for the card. The league has scheduled roster reveals for Monday, which should begin to fill in the lineups for both squads.

One name is already attached to the Miami side. Marlon Moraes was recently named to the Miami Monsters roster. The 38-year-old Brazilian, nicknamed "Magic," carries a 23-10-1 record and trains out of American Top Team. He stands five-foot-six, or 168 cm, with a 67-inch (170 cm) reach and fights from an orthodox stance.

Moraes' career numbers point to a volume striker with modest grappling output. He lands 3.37 significant strikes per minute at 40 percent accuracy, averages 0.87 takedowns per 15 minutes and attempts 0.3 submissions in the same span.

His recent form is a factor. In his three most recent recorded fights, Moraes lost each by knockout or TKO. Song Yadong stopped him in the first round on March 12, 2022, at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev. Before that, Merab Dvalishvili finished him in round two at UFC 266 on Sept. 25, 2021, and Rob Font stopped him in round one on Dec. 19, 2020. That is a three-fight losing streak across the recorded bouts, all ending inside two rounds.

Why it matters

  • The Dec. 18 date gives the Global Fight League a concrete debut after the May 2025 cancellations.
  • The Buenos Aires versus Miami pairing sets up a home-city team format rather than a traditional individual-bout card.
  • Monday's roster reveals will show how deep each team is and which veterans the league has signed.
  • Moraes, a former top-ranked bantamweight contender by reputation, would add name recognition to the Miami lineup, though his recorded results show a run of early stoppages.

Until the rosters and bout assignments are released, it remains unclear which weight classes will be contested or who Moraes would face, if he is booked at all.
