The UFC's pound-for-pound rankings were refreshed on October 27 in the wake of UFC 333, with Islam Makhachev holding the No. 1 spot, Alexander Volkanovski moving up to No. 2 and Petr Yan climbing to No. 3. Merab Dvalishvili, meanwhile, slid down to No. 9.

The most notable movement involves the two bantamweights. Yan beat Dvalishvili by unanimous decision over five rounds at UFC 333 on October 24, and the result sent the pair in opposite directions on the list.

Makhachev, 29-1, stays on top. The 35-year-old Russian from Eagles MMA is a champion and was most recently seen in a unanimous-decision title win over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on August 15. That followed another five-round decision over Jack Della Maddalena in November 2025 and a first-round submission of Renato Moicano in January 2025. Makhachev lands 2.27 significant strikes per minute at 58 percent accuracy, and averages 3.22 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Yan, 21-5, is the bantamweight champion and, at 33, two years younger than the man he just beat. The Russian lands 5.16 significant strikes per minute at 54 percent accuracy, well ahead of Makhachev's volume. UFC 333 was his second consecutive unanimous decision over Dvalishvili, after a matching result at UFC 323 on December 6, 2025.

Dvalishvili, 21-6, was ranked No. 2 in the pound-for-pound list in our records before the move. The 35-year-old Georgian has now lost back-to-back five-round decisions to Yan, both in title fights. His 5.97 takedowns per 15 minutes is the highest rate of the three fighters here, but he landed just 4.42 strikes per minute at 41 percent accuracy.

Why it matters

  • Makhachev has beaten Volkanovski twice, by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in February 2023 and by first-round KO/TKO at UFC 294 in October 2023, so the top two spots are separated by a decisive head-to-head record.
  • Yan has won both of his last two meetings with Dvalishvili, though Dvalishvili won their first fight in March 2023, so the series stands 2-1 in Yan's favor.
  • Dvalishvili's drop from No. 2 to No. 9 is a seven-place fall, the biggest swing of the update among the fighters named.
