Sean O'Malley has addressed the chatter about how Tommy McMillen lives outside of fight camp, saying the young prospect can enjoy a looser lifestyle between bouts and still lock in when it matters.

O'Malley, who works McMillen's corner, said the lifestyle McMillen keeps away from camp is not the one he would follow while preparing for a fight, but he has no concerns about his charge's focus once fight time arrives. He also acknowledged that McMillen's career could go in any direction, describing him as stubborn and determined to follow his own path regardless of what anyone says or thinks.

McMillen, nicknamed "Gun," is 12-0 at 28 years old and fights out of Fight Ready. The American is a six-foot orthodox striker with a 74-inch reach. He lands 11.13 significant strikes per minute at 47 percent accuracy, and adds 1.58 takedown attempts per 15 minutes.

His recent run backs up the hype. He took a unanimous decision over Marwan Rahiki on September 12, his most recent recorded fight, after a third-round KO/TKO of Alberto Montes in July and a first-round stoppage of Manolo Zecchini in April. That is two stoppages in his last three recorded outings.

O'Malley, 32, is 20-3 and ranked second at bantamweight. His most recent recorded fight was a second-round KO/TKO of Aiemann Zahabi on June 14, following a unanimous decision over Song Yadong in January. His last recorded loss came in June 2025, when Merab Dvalishvili submitted him in the third round of a title fight at UFC 316.

Why it matters

  • The two make an interesting contrast in output: McMillen lands 11.13 significant strikes per minute to O'Malley's 6.05, though O'Malley is the more accurate striker at 60 percent against 47.
  • McMillen is 4 inches taller than O'Malley's 72-inch reach would suggest in raw numbers, with a 74-inch reach, a two-inch edge.
  • With O'Malley guiding McMillen's preparation, questions about his habits are likely to follow him as his profile grows.

McMillen's unbeaten record gives him a strong argument that his methods are working so far.
