Conor McGregor used the BKFC Glasgow post-fight press conference to call for a third fight with Max Holloway, saying he wants the trilogy to serve as his final UFC appearance in 2027. Nothing has been officially announced, but the Irishman made his intentions plain.
McGregor believes he could have beaten Holloway even fighting on one leg, a reference to the injury that ended their second meeting at UFC 329 on July 11. Holloway took that bout by first-round TKO, levelling the rivalry at one win apiece.

McGregor, 38, carries a 22-7 record and fights out of SBG Ireland. That UFC 329 loss is his most recent recorded fight, and it followed a long gap: his previous recorded bout was the doctor's-stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 on July 10, 2021. He is a southpaw with a 74-inch (188 cm) reach, landing 5.27 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy.
Holloway, 34, is 28-9 and ranks fourth at lightweight and ninth in the pound-for-pound list. The American from Gracie Technics lands 6.92 significant strikes per minute at 48 percent accuracy, well above McGregor's volume. His recent recorded run is mixed: a unanimous decision win over Poirier in July 2025, a unanimous decision loss to Charles Oliveira in March 2026, and then the first-round finish of McGregor four months later.
The rivalry in numbers
McGregor won the first meeting by unanimous decision on August 17, 2013, at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen. The rematch came almost 13 years later, and Holloway ended it in the opening round.
- Rivalry record: 1-1, with McGregor winning in 2013 and Holloway in 2026
- Age: McGregor is four years older than Holloway, 38 to 34
- Reach: McGregor holds a five-inch edge, 74 inches to 69
- Striking output: Holloway's 6.92 significant strikes landed per minute is 1.65 more than McGregor's 5.27
Why it matters
A trilogy would settle a rivalry whose second chapter ended on an injury stoppage that McGregor clearly feels left the question open. For Holloway, a fourth-ranked lightweight with a recent finish over a former champion, the stakes would be about adding a second win over one of the sport's biggest names.

For now, the call-out remains just that. No bout has been made, and the 2027 timeline is McGregor's own.
