Rodriguez, known as "D-Rod," told TMZ Sports he received an outstanding offer and agreed to the fight the same day it was presented to him. The 39-year-old American carries a 20-5 record and currently sits ranked 14th in the welterweight division. Fighting out of 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu and competing as a southpaw, Rodriguez stands six-foot-one with a 74-inch reach. He is one of the more active strikers in the division, averaging 7.2 significant strikes per minute with a 49 percent accuracy rate.

Edwards, the former welterweight champion fighting out of England, enters this bout at 22-6 and is ranked ninth in the division. The 34-year-old southpaw, nicknamed "Rocky," stands six-foot-two and also carries a 74-inch reach. He brings a more measured approach to striking, landing 2.62 significant strikes per minute at a 54 percent accuracy rate, while adding a steady grappling threat with 1.18 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Why it matters

  • Edwards is a former divisional champion and ranks well above Rodriguez at number nine, making this a significant step up in competition for D-Rod
  • A strong performance by Rodriguez could push him up from 14th in the welterweight rankings, while Edwards will look to reassert himself near the top of the division
  • Both fighters are southpaws with identical reaches, but their contrasting styles — Rodriguez's high-volume output versus Edwards's measured accuracy and takedown game — sets up an intriguing tactical contest
  • The UFC 329 card falls during International Fight Week, one of the promotion's marquee annual events, raising the profile of every bout on the card
