Topuria says Makhachev fight was hours from announcement before injury

Ilia Topuria revealed he was just hours away from the official announcement of his fight against Islam Makhachev at the White House event before it fell through. Topuria stated he went to bed knowing he would fight Makhachev and that the announcement was imminent. However, he was woken up by numerous phone calls informing him that Islam had suffered an injury and he would instead fight Max Holloway. Topuria says he learned about the change just a couple of hours before the full card was scheduled to be announced. Despite the disappointment, Topuria expressed that he is not disheartened by the situation.
