Oliveira, currently 36 years old, enters this new chapter with a professional record of 37-11-0 and a standing of third in the UFC lightweight rankings, as well as eleventh in the pound-for-pound standings. The Sao Paulo native trains out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima and has built his reputation as one of the most dangerous submission artists in the sport, averaging 2.6 submission attempts per 15 minutes. He complements that ground-based threat with an active wrestling game, recording 2.22 takedowns per 15 minutes, and lands 3.35 significant strikes per minute at a 54 percent striking accuracy rate. Standing five-foot-ten with a 74-inch reach, the orthodox fighter has long been considered one of the most complete lightweights in the world.

Why it matters

  • Oliveira at number three in the lightweight rankings means this contract carries direct title implications at 155 pounds
  • Eight fights through age 40 signals genuine longevity ambitions, not a farewell tour
  • His submission and takedown output makes him a continued threat to any lightweight in the division, including the champion
