Quick read

Tapology has introduced a new feature displaying opposition level ratings in UFC fighter profiles, scored from 1 to 99. The rating is calculated using a specific formula based on a fighter's last six UFC bouts, with non-UFC fights excluded from the calculation. For UFC 328, Sean Strickland leads with a rating of 74, followed by Khamzat Chimaev at 69 and Alexander Volkov at 67. At the bottom of the card, Baisangur Susurkayev and Ozzie Diaz both have ratings of 4, while Jorden Santos, Yaroslav Amosov, and Ateba Gautier are rated at 6, 7, and 7 respectively. The system provides a quantitative measure of the quality of competition each fighter has faced recently.

Tapology has rolled out an opposition level rating system for UFC fighter profiles ahead of UFC 328 on May 9, 2026, giving fans a quantitative look at the quality of competition each fighter has recently faced. Scores run from 1 to 99 and are calculated using a fighter's last six UFC bouts, with non-UFC appearances excluded from the formula entirely.

At the top of the UFC 328 card, middleweight champion Sean Strickland leads all fighters on the event with an opposition rating of 74. The 35-year-old American, who trains out of Xtreme Couture and carries a 31-7-0 record, is one of the most active strikers in the division, landing 6.04 significant strikes per minute at 42 percent accuracy with a 76-inch reach. Khamzat Chimaev sits second at 69, while heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov comes in third at 67. Volkov, ranked first in the heavyweight division, is a six-foot-seven Russian with a 40-11-0 record and posts a striking accuracy of 57 percent, among the highest marks in the division.

At the other end of the spectrum, Baisangur Susurkayev and Ozzie Diaz both register ratings of 4, indicating limited recent UFC-level competition. Yaroslav Amosov and Ateba Gautier each score a 7, with Gautier also among the lower-rated fighters on the card. The 24-year-old stands six-foot-four with an 81-inch reach and holds an 11-1-0 record, but his limited UFC sample size keeps his opposition score near the bottom. Jorden Santos checks in at 6.

Why it matters

  • The system offers a at-a-glance benchmark for evaluating how much high-level opposition a fighter has logged inside the UFC specifically
  • Rankings implications are indirect but real, as fighters with low scores may be seen as unproven against elite competition
  • The exclusion of non-UFC fights means prospects with strong regional records receive no credit, which may spark debate around newer additions to the roster
