Demid Volkov, an 18-year-old from Vyritsa near St. Petersburg, won the Russian MMA championship in the junior division at 93 kg. In March, he became the Russian combat sambo champion at 88 kg, making him one of the youngest champions in the discipline. Volkov trains under Alexander Korshunov and spars with Denis Goltsov, Mokhnatkin, and Khadis Ibragimov. In the final, he defeated 17-year-old Platon Lebedev with throws and ground control.
