Arman Tsarukyan had a straightforward answer when asked about a hypothetical matchup with UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall: it simply would not go well for him. The lightweight contender laughed off the idea, acknowledging the enormous size gap between the two fighters and joking that the only way he could compete would be if he were armed with a gun.

The contrast in physical dimensions makes the humor land. Aspinall, the 33-year-old Englishman out of Team Kaobon, stands six-foot-five with a 78-inch reach and holds a 15-3 record atop the heavyweight division. He currently sits sixth in the pound-for-pound rankings and has been one of the most active strikers in the UFC, landing 7.63 significant strikes per minute at a remarkable 67 percent accuracy.

Tsarukyan, by comparison, is the number-one ranked lightweight contender at 29 years old. The Russian fighter, known as Ahalkalakets, trains out of American Top Team and carries a 23-3 record. Standing five-foot-seven with a 72-inch reach, he is built for the 155-pound class, where his wrestling has been a primary weapon — he averages 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Why it matters

  • The six-inch height difference and 26-inch combined reach advantage illustrate just how stark the physical gap between divisions can be.
  • Tsarukyan remains focused at lightweight, where he is one win away from a title shot.
  • Aspinall continues to rank among the most feared heavyweights on the roster, with elite striking volume backing that reputation.
