The UFC has formally announced a pair of high-stakes matchups for its July 25 card in Abu Dhabi, headlined by a light heavyweight clash between Magomed Ankalaev and Khalil Rountree Jr., with Umar Nurmagomedov taking on David Martinez in the co-main event.

Ankalaev enters the main event as one of the light heavyweight division's most prominent figures, while Rountree brings a dangerous southpaw style to the matchup. The 36-year-old Rountree holds a professional record of 15-7 and is currently ranked seventh in the light heavyweight division. Standing six-foot-one with a 76-inch reach, he generates nearly four significant strikes per minute, though his game is almost entirely built around striking, with virtually no takedown output to speak of.

Umar Nurmagomedov arrives at the co-main event as the second-ranked bantamweight in the world, carrying a 20-1 record and the kind of pedigree that demands attention. The 30-year-old Russian, who trains out of Eagles MMA, is a technically imposing fighter — landing 3.86 significant strikes per minute at a striking accuracy of 56 percent, while also threatening with over four takedowns per 15 minutes. He stands five-foot-eight with a 69-inch reach.

His opponent, David Martinez, known as the Black Spartan, brings a 14-1 record and represents Mexico's Bonebreakers MMA. The 27-year-old is the most active volume striker on the card, landing 4.82 significant strikes per minute, and carries a physically compact frame at five-foot-five with a 67-inch reach.

Why it matters

  • Ankalaev and Rountree are both inside the top ten at light heavyweight, making this a genuine divisional ladder matchup
  • A Nurmagomedov win could position him as the next bantamweight title contender given his number-two ranking
  • The Nurmagomedov vs. Martinez matchup pits elite grappling and striking versatility against a high-output volume puncher
